Gauguin, (Eugene Henri) Paul (1848 - 1903)
|
|
|
French postimpressionist painter, whose lush
color, flat two-dimensional forms, and subject matter helped
form the basis of modern art.

But the lanscape with its strong,
pure colours dazzled me, made me blind. I was always undecided,
sought and sought... And at the same time it was so easy to
paint, as I saw it, without much consideration to place a red
beside a blue! Golden figures in streams and on beaches captivated
me. Why did I hestitate capturing this jubilation of sun on
my canvas? Oh! these old European traditions! the timing style
of espression of degenerate races!
